THE FLOWER OF LIFE

The Flower of Life is an ancient symbol full of wisdom; the pattern from which all creation flows. This symbol is said to be responsible in one way or another for the creation of both tangible existence (humans, animals, trees, flowers, etc.) as well as intangible existence (music, emotion, thought, etc.) This pattern has appeared around the globe throughout history, and has been confirmed to be found in China, Greece, India, Ireland, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Germany, Iceland, and many other locations across the planet. This symbol also houses an incredible amount sub-symbols, representing a tremendous amount of intricate and profound information; such as the geometry for the Hebrew Kabbalah, for example.

The Seed of Life

The Flower of Life starts by drawing a central circle. From there, a second circle is constructed, centered at any point in the perimeter of the first one. After that, the next steps involve turning around the original circle, find the intersecting point between the newly created circle and the original one, and draw a new circle centered at this point. The seven steps of this process culminate to reveal what is known as the Seed of Life, and are said to symbolize the first seven days of creation told in the Book of Genesis from the Bible.

The Vesica Piscis

As you can see, when two circles join, a third space is created, known as the Vesica Piscis: a type of lens or mathematical shape formed by the intersection of two disks with the same radius, intersecting in such a way that the center of each disk lies on the perimeter of the other.  In Latin, "vesica piscis" literally means "bladder of a fish", reflecting the shape's resemblance to the conjoined dual air bladders ("swim bladder") found in most fish. In Italian, the shape's name is mandorla ("almond"). This figure appears in the first proposition of Euclid's Elements, where it forms the first step in constructing an equilateral triangle using a compass and straightedge. The triangle has as its vertices the two disk centers and one of the two sharp corners of the vesica piscis.  The square roots formed by the Vesica Piscis can be seen within the graphic below.

What’s miraculous about this form is that it creates the mathematical foundations for the geometry of light, otherwise known as the square roots of 3, 2 and 5.  This symbol is also supposedly correlated with first day of creation:

Genesis 1:3 - "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was light.”

This symbol is also mathematically linked to the number 153. The mathematical ratio of the width of the Vesica Pisces to its height is the square root of 3, or approximately 1.7320508... (since if straight lines are drawn connecting the centers of the two circles with each other and with the two points where the circles intersect, two equilateral triangles join along an edge). The ratios 265:153 = 1.7320261... and 1351:780 = 1.7320513... are two of a series of approximations to this value, each with the property that no better approximation can be obtained with smaller whole numbers.

Renaissance artists frequently surrounded images of Jesus with the vesica piscis.  In fact, the word ‘Vesica Piscis’ is Latin, and literally translates to 'bladder of a fish'. A reference to this symbol can be found in the Bible, when Jesus catches 153 fish in a net, which can be seen as another correlation to the symbol:

John 21:11 - “Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three. And although there were so many, the net was not torn.”

The Egg of Life

After the seed of life, the second iteration in the process of construction in the Flower of Life is called The Egg of Life:

It contains 7+6=13 circles, as shown in the following image.

By removing the overlap from the circles in the flower of life, or if one draws a sphere centered in each of its vertices such that all the spheres are tangent to each other, the resulting figure is a two-dimensional projection identical to that of the Egg of Life, as shown in the following image.  This is the structure of the Egg of Life proposed by Drunvalo Melchizedek in his book The ancient secret of the Flower of Life, Vol. 1. Drunvalo also affirms in his book that this structure is adopted by the first eight cells in our body. Those cells are said to be located in our exact geometric center, and they are the only ones that never die to be regenerated.

The egg of life has a personal significance to everyone.  Every human being started out in this pattern. Everything about who you are today emerged from this simple shape.  From the division of cells, to the formation of galaxies, everything in the universe follows the same mathematical properties.

The Fruit of Life/Metatron’s Cube

The flower of life, in every location it was discovered, was always drawn the same way, with 19 circles.  Judging by the 36 partial circles, it looks as if there is more to the flower of life than the first impression gives. By completing the figure and adding the missing circles, the Fruit of Life is formed.

10.jpg

It is from the fruit of life that the fabric of reality is woven.  To unlock the secret of the fruit, you must connect the center of each circle to every other circle. After this is done. This figure is known as Metatron's Cube. This figure houses the five unique shapes that appear in the universe. The image looks something like this:

The Platonic Solids

These five shapes that come from Metatron’s cube are known as the Platonic Solids, which are characterized as follows:

  • 1. All faces are the same size

  • 2. All edges are the same length

  • 3. All angles throughout the shape are the same

  • 4. All points align perfectly with the edge of a sphere when placed in the middle

12.jpg

All together, these shapes depict the Five Elements: fire, air, earth, water, and energy (ether/prana).  The symbol is completed by the "void", which the elements move amongst.  Every symbol on the periodic table relates back geometrically to one of these five shapes. There is no exception. Everything in existence, in one way or another, relates back to the five platonic solids.

The tetrahedron, hexahedron and octahedron all occur in crystals, but there is a total of 45 other forms of crystals. Neither the icosahedron nor the dodecahedron occurs in crystals. Fluorite, Spinel, Magnetite and Diamond are examples of naturally occurring octahedron formations and pyrite is a hexahedron formation.  Common table salt is an example of how two different elements, sodium and chloride, can bond together and form a Platonic Solid geometry - the hexahedron (cube).

A 3D model of any of the elements in the Periodic Table will show a crystalline structure at the atomic level made up of the Platonic Solid shapes. The Platonic Solids form the building blocks of human bodies, sound, music, language, DNA, planets, solar systems, stars, galaxies and the universes; and because they form the basis of all structure, these solids are used in the study of mathematics, medicine, science, astrology, meteorology and geology, just to name a few.

The golden ratio, the Fibonacci sequence, fractals, Voronoi patters, and the flower of life all reside within an encompassing term known as Sacred Geometry: the fundamental pattern behind all creative processes in existence.  Through scientific investigation, sacred geometry and its design have been shown to be responsible for the governing of all manifestations within this reality, including plant growth, cellular division, light, music, harmonics, and cosmology. The notion of divine mathematics is well established and widespread, even in prehistory.

Inside this reality, we can find patterns within the most minuscule particles, and throughout the expressions of the entire cosmos. All physical manifestation inevitably follows inherent geometric archetypes, which reveal to us the nature of each form and its vibrational resonances. These geometries are also symbolic of the metaphysical principle regarding the inseparable relationship of the part to the whole. It is this principle of oneness underlying all geometry that permeates the architecture of all form within its immense diversity. This principle of interconnectedness, inseparability, and union is a continuous reminder of our relationship to the whole, and provides us with a blueprint to the sacred foundation of all things created.
